Xi Jinping meetings and talks in 2023
Xi Jinping made only four foreign visits in 2023. These were to Russia, South Africa (BRICS summit), the US (APEC summit) and Vietnam.
In total, he held 115 different meetings and talks with state representatives and representatives of the EU, the APEC summit, BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He mainly spoke with representatives of Europe and Central Asia and East Asia (about 48% of all talks and meetings).
He spoke most often with representatives of Russia (6), Cambodia (5), the US and Vietnam (4 each).
Xi Jinping meetings and talks in 2024
Xi Jinping made nine foreign visits in 2024. These included France, Serbia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Russia, Peru, Brazil and Morocco.
He held a total of 133 different meetings and talks with state officials and representatives, the UN, the African Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit and the China-Africa Cooperation Forum and the APEC and G20 Summit. He spoke mainly with representatives of Sub-Saharan Africa (30%) and Europe and Central Asia (25.5%). This is due to the above-mentioned Forum, where most countries from Africa (except Eswatini, which recognizes Taiwan) came to Beijing.
He spoke most often with representatives of Russia (6), the US and Vietnam (4 each).
Wang Yi and Qin Gang foreign visits in 2023
In 2023, we had two foreign ministers of China, Qin Gang and Wang Yi. Wang Yi returned as head of the Foreign Ministry on July 25, 2023, and his talks are counted from that point. They made 25 overseas visits in 2023.
They held meetings with representatives of 219 from various countries and participated in meetings with representatives of the EU, ASEAN, the African Union and the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the World Intellectual Property Organization, the International Organization for Migration, Berklee College of Music, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Arab League, the Delegation of Foreign Ministers of Arab and Islamic Countries, the African Union.
As with Xi in 2023, they mostly spoke with representatives of Europe and Central Asia and East Asia (about 47% of all talks and meetings).
Most often they had talks with representatives of Russia (10), Iran and the United States (9 each), France (8).
Wang Yi foreign visits in 2024
Wang Yi has made overseas visits to 22 countries.
He held meetings with representatives of 200 from various countries and participated in meetings with representatives of the EU, ASEAN, BRICS, G20, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the UN, League of Arab States, East Asia Summit, China Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue and the Quartet of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, Friends of Peace Group on the crisis in Ukraine, Gulf Cooperation Council.
He spoke most often with representatives of Russia (10), Japan and the US (8 times each), Brazil (7), and France and Iran (6 each).
The list does not include phone calls of congratulations or condolences sent. In the case of the foreign minister, I did not take into account meetings he attended together with Xi Jinping, only where he independently met or spoke with the respective representative bilaterally directly. The regions were divided according to the UN methodology.
