Poland maintains diplomatic relations with all of the 193 member states of the United Nations. Non-United Nations entities with which Poland maintains diplomatic relations are: Holy See, the Palestinian National Authority, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the Republic of China.
The diplomatic missions of the Republic of Poland at the embassy level operate in 94 countries around the world. Of these, 41 embassies are in Europe, 26 in Asia, 14 in Africa, 11 in North and South America and 2 in Australia and Oceania. In most, or 78 of the 94 embassies, the facility manager is an ambassador. In the remaining 13, the head of post is a chargé d’affaires ad interim. Five outposts have been temporarily relocated to another country, including the outpost in Syria has its representation transferred to Beirut (Lebanon), Libya to Tunis (Tunisia), Rwanda to Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Sudan to Cairo (Egypt) and North Korea to Beijing (PRC). In Austria, the managerial position is held by a chargé d’affaires while in Bosnia and Herzegovina it is Head of Desk, Consul, Second Secretary. The embassies in Vietnam and Kazakhstan do not have a head of post.
In addition to embassies, the Republic of Poland has 10 permanent representations to various international organizations, where the ambassador represents Poland.
These posts are located, among others, at the UN in Switzerland, Austria, Kenya, Italy and the USA, at the OSCE in Austria, at NATO in Belgium, at the EU in Belgium, at the Council of Europe in France and at the OECD in France. In addition, Poland maintains diplomatic relations with entities that do not receive full international recognition. In this context, there are representations to the Palestinian National Authority and the Polish Office in Taipei.
